Hadron Production in the Trans-fragmentation Region in Heavy-Ion Collisions
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the production of hadrons in Au+Au collisions in the region 0.6 < xF < 1.2, which we refer to as the trans-fragmentation region (TFR), since it corresponds roughly to η′ > 0, where η′ = η−ybeam, depending on pT . We show how hadrons can be produced in that region when the hadronization process is parton recombination. The inclusive x-distributions for proton and pion production are calculated with momentum degradation taken into account. The results show that the proton yield is significantly higher than that of the pions in the TFR. Without particle identification the existing data cannot be used for comparison with our result on the p/π ratio. Without pT determination it is not feasible to relate the x distribution to the experimental η′ distribution. Nevertheless, on theoretical grounds we have shown why the production of hadrons in the TFR is not forbidden by momentum conservation. PACS numbers: 25.75.Dw

Hadron production data in ee, deep inelastic scattering and hadronic collisions are presented, together with global analyses of fragmentation functions into light and heavy hadrons and developments on parton fragment...
متن کاملJet Photoproduction in Peripheral Heavy-Ion Collisions
In peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, jet+jet and photon+jet final states can be produced when a photon from the virtual photon field surrounding the nucleus interacts with a parton in the opposite nucleus (direct production). The virtual photon may also fluctuate into states with multiple gluons and qq pairs (resolved production), opening more channels f...

We explore how nuclear modifications to the nucleon parton distributions affect production of high-p T hadrons in heavy ion collisions. We perform a leading order calculation of the high-p T charged pion, kaon and proton spectra using standard fragmentation functions and shadowing parameterizations. We also consider alternate models of shadowing. Near midrapidity, shadowing is a small effect an...
متن کاملA Short Review on Jet Identification
Jets can be used to probe the physical properties of the high energy density matter created in collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Measurements of strong suppression of inclusive hadron distributions and di-hadron correlations at high pT have already provided evidence for partonic energy loss. However, these measurements suffer from well-known geometric biases due to the c...
متن کاملPhoton Production and Photon-Hadron Correlations in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
We calculate the production of real photons in relativistic nuclear collisions at RHIC, consistently with the quenching of fast partons. We go beyond one-body observables, and evaluate photon-triggered fragmentation functions, in the kinematical window corresponding to that of experimental measurements.
